Blog Details

We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

Porthloo to Porthmellon

Tuesday 11th June 2013

After walking around 3 miles already I'd realised I'd not taken any pictures!! Luckily I still had time to squeeze in a couple of shots as I headed back to town from Porthloo direction along the coastal path

Tresco

Sunday 9th June 2013

A short boat trip at low tide takes you across to Carn Near. So called due to it being the closest point to St Mary's. From here you're about 10 minutes or so walk to the Tresco Gardens.  We were hungry and as we'd gone on the 12.15 boat we headed instead up the west side of the island to New Grimsby for lunch at the New Inn, taking in the views along the way across Tresco Channel.
After lunch we headed north up to see the 2 castles on the west coast. Cromwell's Castle & King Charles Castle.

HMS Somerset

A visit from HMS Somerset this weekend to the islands and an opportunity to go out on board her for a guided tour. It was very interesting and the crew were very welcoming and friendly. Thanks must go to everyone on board who enabled it to happen.

Garrison... The other way round!

Friday 7th June 2013

Having not a lot of time I only had chance of a short walk. I headed around the Garrison again, but the other way round in an anticlockwise direction.
The HMS Somerset is in St Mary's Roads  for a couple of nights and offering tours on board her. I'm heading out there Saturday afternoon with my daughter to take a look.

Garrison Walls Walk

Monday 3rd June 2013

It's always good to take a walk around the Garrison on St Mary's. I'm normally on a brisk walk, but decided to take it slow for a change. I sat on the bench under the Garrison Wall near Woolpack Battery for a good half an hour in the sunshine just taking in the sea air and views towards St Agnes with boats going back and forth. I've not been to St Agnes yet this year so must get over there soon!

Town Beach, St Mary's

Sunday 2nd June 2013

After our boat trip back from Bryher, the view across St Mary's harbour and Town Beach was worth a few minutes to take in the views.

Bar Beach, Bryher

Sunday 2nd June 2013

A trip to Bryher. Sunshine glorious sunshine all weekend. Golden sands and blue seas. A peaceful little off island, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine.
