We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

Cancer Research Coffee Morning

The Bell Rock Hotel took its turn to host a coffee morning for the Cancer Research UK this morning.
The event went with real success. We cunningly provided wet weather to deliberately draw more people in... he says tongue in cheek!!
The grand total raised was a whopping £546.50 which I feel is a tremendous effort made by all who attended! (that's just over £4.55 per minute raised)
Thank you and well done everybody!!

Porthcressa

Wednesday 13th June 2012

A shorter walk for Wednesday took me up to Peninnis in the opposite direction than Tuesday. I also cut back along King Edward's Road and down Buzza Hill before taking a dip in the Bell Rock Hotel Swimming Pool (Perks of the job!).
I found a beetle on some cow parsley along the path. Very iridescent green in colour.
The coastal path along Peninnis is slowly getting eroded by the seas. It's not all that long ago that you used to be able to walk along the bottom of the allotments. The path was actually quite wide too! Just in 20 years or so and the sea has claimed a large section back :(

Peninnis & Old Town Church

This afternoon's walk takes me down to Old Town and around the coastal path to Peninnis and back to Porthcressa bay.
The sun was again hot, but luckily there was a slight breeze to aid in keeping me cool on my walk.

St Mary's in the Sunshine

Monday 11th June 2012

As it's back to work on Monday, sure enough, the sun comes out a blazing! Oh well, at least with split shifts I can escape in the sunshine on a walk.
Monday afternoon brought a walk of 6.7 miles heading out of town, through Old Town, past Tremelethen Farm and up Kitty Down. This is where I took my first photo of the day, looking across to Porth Hellick.
From here I headed up and down past Mount Todden onto the coastal path (2nd photo) and around to Pelistry. The third photo is of Pelistry and Toll's Island.
It's a bit of a walk to cross the soft sand to get across Pelistry beach and back onto the coastal path. I may have looked a bit like John Cleese in his ministry of silly ("Scilly" perhaps?!) walking along in an odd way so as not to fill up my shoes with sand!
Once back on the coastal path it's around to Watermill Cove and up over Innisidgen and around to Bar Point. I took a couple of pictures here. One just before Bar Point looking towards St Martins, and then one of Bar Point with Tresco in the background. You may see a little speck in the sky on the right side of the shot on this one, which is the British International Helicopter coming into land at Tresco.
This is the last picture I took before heading back into town.

Evening Sunset Stroll Around the Garrison

Sunday 10th June 2012

The evening was so pleasant it was lovely taking a wander around the Garrison to take in the calm evening and the fresh smell of the sea before sunset. Although the clouds were shrouding the skies a little, the off islands of Samson & Bryher were still stunning in varying shades of silhouette. It's a shame as I don't think my phone has done it justice with these pictures.

North End of St Mary's & Bants Carn

Sunday 10th June 2012

A cloudy day on the whole, but still warm. The morning was cool, but the afternoon was warm enough to walk without the need of a coat or fleece.

We took a stroll up to the north end of St Mary's round Bants Carn and back around the golf course into town.

Breezy But Sunny Day!

Friday 8th June 2012

It's been a breezy but bright day today. I took a walk around the coast from Old Town round to Porth Hellick & the burial chamber up there.
The seas are whipped up today after the gales yesterday. I think the whole country has strong winds now today.
It wasn't cold though, and I was ok with just a pair of shorts and tshirt walking.
The tide was out this afternoon, so Porth Hellick was dried out.
