Blog Details

We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

Sunrise Over Peninnis

This morning's sunrise over Porthcressa & Peninnis was a brief glow of stunning shades of red across the skies. The clouds whisping almost gave the effect of aurora borealis (if you've got morning blurry imagination like me!)
Within a couple of minutes the vivid colours were gone as the sun crept over the horizon.

Sunday Walks 20th November 2016

We took the opportunity to take a walk up the north end of St Mary's before the worst of the storms came back. The low pressure system following Storm Angus was to be stronger all round, but remained nameless.

We headed past Watermill around the coast to Innisidgen, Bar Point & Pendrethan. This is one of my favourite walks on St Mary's.

St Martins

Sunday 7th August 2016

I'm ashamed to say it's been several years since I've managed to get to St Martins! I thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday family outing!
We had fish & chips for lunch at Adam's after being pleased to see he was open! My first time there to eat and hopefully not the last.
We then took a walk up to the Daymark. Taking in the views along the way. Very pleasant.

Boating Around!

Sunday 31st July 2016

Sunday 17 July 2016

Old Town Bay

An evening stroll around Old Town bay and Peninnis. A calm and peaceful evening. The sea reflects Carn Lea.

Tuesday 12 July 2016

Cromwell's Castle

These were taken on the 3rd July. Cromwell's Castle on Tresco north west side. Also the sparkling sea at Bryher & the stunning sky looking north. There were planes flying high that afternoon with no vapour contrails! A rare phenomenon. If you're very observant there's a plane in the sky picture!

Sundown Over St Mary's Harbour

Wednesday 22nd June 2016

As the sun goes down over Town Beach & St Mary's Harbour, the freight ship Gry Maritha comes astern to dock alongside St Mary's Quay.

Peninnis Walks

Tuesday 22nd June 2016

A lovely warm afternoon in the sun taking a walk up to Peninnis Lighthouse & looking back towards Porthcressa Beach.

Bryher

Sunday 29th May 2016

Here's a few photos I took on a day out to Bryher. The weather and sea were idyllic and too good to miss. It's the first time this year I've managed to get to the off islands. Hopefully many more trips to come yet!

Old Town Bay

Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May 2013

The sun is hot. The breeze is cool. If you can tuck away from the breeze, you're going to feel the heat! My face was glowing in the evening after being out for only two hours.
