We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

The Garrison - North Side

Friday 6th July 2012

I went all round the Garrison but it seemed that everywhere I tried to take a photo, the sun was in the wrong place and completely over exposed the shot. I gave up in the end, but here are the few I did take...

Old Town Bay & Peninnis

Thursday 5th July 2012

After a brief meeting at the school about my daughter's school trip to the mainland, I decided to take the longer route back to town & home, via Old Town Bay & Peninnis.

The sea was like glass in Old Town bay and Carn Lea cast an almost perfect reflection in the water.

Onward and up to Pulpit rock on Peninnis, looking like a giant stone age diving board into the sea!

The lighthouse that used to be paraffin fuelled is now made redundant in favour of an LED flashing light; which sadly does not have the majestic sweep of the traditional rotating lens. Progress? I'm not a fan; and the range doesn't emit light as far either.

There's a few loose stones and rocks on the steep paths, so sensible shoes and a steady foot is needed if you take this route.

Flotsam & Jetsam... This old pallet washed up is now jetsam as it's no longer afloat.

“Friendly & relaxing”

Reviewed 4 July 2012

This was our second stay at the Bell Rock, following our first visit a year ago, and we have already made a provisional booking for 2013. The hotel's predominant atmosphere is one of quiet, peaceful, relaxing comfort. There is no noise or bustle and any music in the lounge or dining room is kept at a discreet background level. All the staff exude an air of cheerful friendliness, while carrying out their duties with unobtrusive efficiency. The dining room is spacious, light and airy, and the food is varied and perfectly cooked and presented, without the slightest trace of pretentious trendiness. Our room was quiet and well-appointed, and the bed probably the most comfortable that either of us has ever experienced in any hotel.
We would recommend the Bell Rock unreservedly.

“Excellent stay”

Reviewed 3 July 2012

We have just returned from a first visit to the Isles of Scilly. Some friends recommended the Bell Rock and we were so glad they did. The friendliness of the staff, the comfort of the hotel and the excellent food made for a very good holiday. It was great place to come back to after a day out.

Holgates Green & The Strand

Wednesday 4th July 2012

A bright sunny day on the whole today. Of course I managed to be stuck inside for the most of it. I just managed a quick stroll up the strand and back this afternoon about half past four. The clouds showed themselves just as i stepped outside, but it was still warm enough with shorts and no jumper.

St Agnes

Sunday 1st July 2012

A day trip out to St Agnes on board the Guiding Star. Gerald Thompson was skipper though rather than Joseph Badcock.
Spot of lunch with visiting friends in the Turks Head and a stroll back to the Parsonage.

Rainbow

Saturday 30th June 2012

As I left work Saturday night 9pm, there was a rainbow over the hotel
