“Old fashioned charm at an attractive price”
Reviewed 11 April 2012
I spent 4 days at this hotel over Easter. By chance I had one of the rooms on the top floor with views out over the bay and the ocean. The hotel is very good at what it does and I have few complaints. The food was wel-cooked, plentiful and good quality (apart from the rather disappointing roast beef), the staff were extremely helpful and it is clear that it is only the bureaucratic nature of hotel ratings that is keeping it at 2 stars.
Room Tip: I had room 19 - a long way up, but worth it for the view (and it has a bath which is a winner for me...

I'm pleased our staff managed to look after you and make your stay with us a pleasant one. Hopefully your mobile phone kept it's charge until you made it back home, after we came to your rescue with the flat battery.
I'm glad also, that you found our food to be enjoyable on the whole. I'm not sure what the problem was with the Sunday roast beef as this was my day off? I've checked with our head waiter, and he doesn't recall any disappointment, but apologises if he didn't get around to asking if everything was alright with your meal, as it was a particularly busy dinner service and he didn't get round to every table.

We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.
Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.
Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel
Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.
Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.
I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

“Superb hockey tour without the hockey!”
Reviewed 8 April 2012
As one of a group of eleven hockey friends - now past the stage of actually playing hockey - I am pleased to say we were very well looked after at Bell Rock during our return visit this March. The hotel arranged for Paul, a local very friendly boatman to come at breakfast time to arrange a boat trip. We were so impressed with Paul that we booked him for the next day too. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the food was ample (important after a day out walking the islands) and very good quality. The staff were friendly and chatty and added to our visit. Having managed to leavae my camera battery charger Daniel has found it and is returning it to me. All round a great vist to a great hotel.

Bryher - Sunday 1st April 2012
Sunday the 1st April was a beautiful day! No Joke!!! Out of the cool breeze, the sun was lovely. I managed to get slightly burnt (even after telling guests to use suncream all week so they don't burn!).
It was our first day out this year on the boats, and Bryher didn't disappoint.
We had lunch at Hell Bay where we were greeted by a cheeky Thrush looking for a snack!
After lunch we walked the north end of the island passed Popplestones, up to Shipman Head and back round to Fraggle Rock. The view towards Tresco was cracking!
I had a go using the panorama app on my phone to take in the view of Tresco, which didn't come out too bad really

“Thoroughly deserves it's No.1 TripAdvisor rating”

I've just got back from another great weekend at the Bell Rock. As usual, everything was spot on - friendly people that run it who genuinely make you feel at home, a nice comfortable room and a good cooked breakfast to set you up for the day. I wouldn't really consider staying anywhere else on St Mary's now. Considering some of the price hikes that other St Mary's hotels have introduced this season, the Bell Rock looks a better deal each year. The No. 1 rating that the Bell Rock has on TripAdvisor is fully justified - I just wish I could have stayed longer.

Monday 20th March 2012
The hotel opened officially on Friday 16th March for the full dinner tariff, and the split shifts now enable me to get out in the day time for a walk.
I enjoyed a walk around the Garrison on Monday afternoon, and snapped a couple of pictures on my phone. The sun was bright and the skies were blue. Flowers are starting to bloom and there were black & grey rabbits hopping about. All in all, a beautiful afternoon!

Good News! Helicopters Are To Stay At Penzance for 2012 Season
It is very welcome news to report that British International Helicopters have secured their present site in Eastern Green, Penzance for the 2012 season. They have negotiated with Sainsbury's to lease the land back until the 31st October 2012.
This is obviously very good news for visitors to the islands.
