Blog Details

We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

“amazing hotel with great staff”

Date of review: 22 Mar 2011

Myself and a colleague was supposed to be on the island only for a day but because of delays on the plane and due to work going on for longer than expected we missed our flight which was not such a bad thing because we got to stay in this amazing hotel with very nice staff and lovely food. On arrival we wanted to use the pool which the manager allowed us to use till 6 which was great as i think it was supposed to close at 5. entering the room i noticed how quiet, clean and fresh it was with a very comfy bed and great shower room, also very clean. The food was 5* along with the service which was very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and if im back on the island again this will definitely be my first port of call. I did notice that it was a 2* hotel but why as it should be more.

Dining Room Redecoration Progress

Well, the Dining Room is starting to get into some sort of shape for the forthcoming season. The new wallpaper has been finished, and the lights are back on the walls. There's new curtains and a couple of new pictures of Steve Sherris' originals. What will set it off nicely is when the new tables & chairs arrive at the end of March. We will have to use the old ones until then.

Heres a few During & After pictures:

Sunday 9th January 2011

We were blessed with a glorious Sunday this week, when it felt like it could almost be spring already... Then we had a severe weather warning with a force 8 or 9 blow through Monday just to remind us it's still winter with its horizontal rain, and cancellation of the Gry Maritha sailing (I don't blame them; there's no way you'd get me out there when it's like that!!). The sea was furious out there, and very white with quite a lot of big hills. That was short lived though, and we return to calm. The Gry is on her way to us now, so we may be able to get something to eat in the Co-op later!?

Here are some photographs I took on Sunday whilst out walking:

Christmas & New Year

"Happy New Year!" to all our guests & staff. We hope you all had a lovely time over the festive period?!
New Year's Eve on Scilly didn't seem as busy as previous years, but there was still plenty of fancy dress costumes around town that night. The weather stayed dry for it luckily, although the wind was cold for those wearing the less warming of costumes!
Christmas Day was glorious with a nice calm day, clear blue skies, no wind, and more importantly, no rain! I don't know what it is about Christmas Day, but it mostly seems to be that way on Scilly, and very peaceful!
Here are a couple of pictures I took from Town Beach on Christmas Day morning:
