We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

Sunrise

Saturday 26th January 2013

Sunrise over Peninnis this morning. Stunning! Haven't seen the sunrise for a while now... Been at work before the sun is up to cook breakfast. It's a lovely sunrise today. Red sky in the morning? I think so, the weather is due to get a bit wild over the next day or so as the country prepares for gale force winds

Accommodation Close To Newquay Airport

Regulars to Scilly will no doubt remember Scillonian, John Hicks who used to run the boat Swordfish II with the St Mary's Boatman's Association before running it as an independent.
John has now taken over the Smugglers Inn at the Airways Hotel, which is situated in prime location for passengers travelling through Newquay Airport. He can also offer parking and pickups/drop offs by prior arrangement.
John along with his partner are working hard to refurb after taking on a previously unloved establishment. Through these winter months and quieter season, it is the best time to take on such projects. You are sure to receive a warm welcome if you decide to stopover.
Meals are available in the evenings and breakfast can be accommodated to fit in with early flights.

Late Afternoon On The Garrison

Sunday 20th January 2013

Where the mainland has freezing temperatures and swathes of snow, we don't! ...It is pretty chilly for Scilly temperatures though, and probably down to about 3 degrees this afternoon at 4pm.

Here's to similar shots towards St Agnes taken from the Steval area of the Garrison. One from the bottom & one from the top of the hill.

Coastal Path St Mary's

Sunday 13th January 2013

A walk over to Old Town and around the coastal path under the Airport and on to Porth Hellick. A cool afternoon but dry. We took the nature trail back to the road and came back to town past Tremelethen Farm where the narcissi are out in a couple of the fields.

Low Tide in St Mary's Harbour

Friday 11th January 2013

Spring tides at the moment making the water go out a long way. Thinking about it I should've taken one at high tide too for a before & after shot!

St Mary's Harbour

Wednesday 9th January 2013

A quick detour to the Strand to take a few snaps this morning whilst out for breakfast supplies for the hotel. The sun is shining and St Mary's Harbour looking calm and peaceful

Porth Loo

Sunday 6th January 2013

After the heavy rains affecting most of the UK the Porth Loo area of St. Mary's is still heavily watered! There's still water running/draining off the land from higher ground. The ducks are enjoying a full pond... And on the other side of the road to usual, they've got a new pond resort to make the most of! I don't know how long it will take to dry back to normal but it won't be in any hurry that's for sure!

Porthmellon At Low Water

Sunday 6th January 2012

A walk on the sand! Sunday's weather was grey but dry in the afternoon. Ideal for a walk.
