We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

Swimming Pool Refurbishment Finished

Saturday 15th February 2014

After a few hiccups along the way with weather causing delays for freight deliveries, the pool is now finally completed.
I think it looks stunning! I hope you agree. I'm looking forward to the season opening when it will be warm to swim in, so that I can try it out for myself. We've had a new heater fitted.

The whole interior has been tiled, and the steps have non slip tiles on the treads. The surround has also been tiled with non slip tiles.
A new deep end ladder/steps has been fitted, and a new pool cover roller has also been fitted.

Storms on Scilly

Friday 14th February 2014

St Valentine's Day & the weather that hit the whole country gave us a tremendous sea swell. Compared to many places along the UK's south coast, we got away lightly. It could've been a lot worse. I think that the outer lying rocks helps to protect the islands by breaking the seas up & taking some of the force out before it hits the shore.

I can't think that I've ever seen the seas so big in Porthcressa. There's been damage to Dibble & Grub where the waves hit the front and stoved in the wall under the windows. They've repaired the damage to the structure already. I for one look forward to enjoying a coffee there soon!

On the Little Porth side the waves caused damage to the sea wall, surrounding rocks & people's gardens

The sea filled up gardens in Little Porth properties and flowed out into the street. This flowed down to the back of Seasalt & Gibson Kyne shops. It was a good couple of feet deep there.
The fire brigade had pumps going and sand bags were set up.
The water was just like a river pouring through.

The sea also came up past the Wheelhouse and flooded the Bishop & Wolf pub.
There was some damage to the concrete path to the beach. A slab of concrete that I'd estimate to be near on 2.5 ton was broken off, lifted up and deposited a little further up.

Here's some more pictures of the aftermath

This used to be a raised area of vegetation

This area has been washed away & flattened

The rocks have all been moved

Above is a huge deposit of sea weed on the path

This wall made of 6" block was knocked over

There's lots of sand where it shouldn't be

Keely's Porthcressa Photos

Saturday 25th January 2014

My daughter Keely took some photos this morning on her iPod, along Porthcressa. The sun is shining and the sea is glistening.

Daniel's Ski Trip

Friday 10th January 2014

So, I've been away skiing this last week, hence the lack of posts. Those of you following the hotel on Twitter & Facebook will have seen my updates. Guests often ask me what I get up to in the winter and what type of holidays I take. So here's a short summary of this trip away from Scilly.

Today is our last day on the slopes here in Obergurgl, Austria. Our first day was heavy snow and pretty heavy going with it. Getting used to the high altitude was bizarre after being on sea level!! Obergurgl is a particularly high resort and the skiing season is long between November & May!
The rest of the week has offered us clear blue skies and perfect conditions. We've been able to take the cable car link to Hochgurgl, the neighbouring resort each day.
Today is our last day sadly and we have an early start to head back home tomorrow (3.30am, Yikes!!).
The weather today is light snow and the skiing is pretty good with soft powder. My legs are working properly and I could do with another week to enjoy my new found technique!! Oh well, all good things have to come to an end. I guess it's like people holidaying on Scilly; you just get settled and it's time to return home.
Here's a few pictures of our trip to Austria.

Happy New Year

Wednesday 1st January 2014

It's a bit breezy today but much better than I was expecting. We took a windswept walk up the Garrison at lunchtime to blow the cobwebs away.

Rough Seas on Scilly

Friday 27th December 2013

A brisk walk this lunchtime around the Garrison in the blustery winds. Blowing the cobwebs away after a couple of days of over indulgence Christmas festivities.
The seas have picked up some heavy swells with the strong winds of late.
