Scilly: St Mary's Top End of the Island

It's been a lovely sunny week here on Scilly. Clear blue skies and warm sunshine. It's hard to believe much of mainland UK have been stuck with rain!

Here's a few pictures I've taken this week  out of town up the top end of St Mary's.

Gig Finals Race

The final of the men's 25th World Pilot Gig Championship weekend was won by Falmouth, just crossing the line here. The boats all together in the harbour entrance waiting to watch the last races in before heading to Holgates Green for the awards ceremony. Then it's party time and plenty of beer to be consumed no doubt!!

25th Anniversary World Championship Pilot Gig Weekend

Preparations are in place to get ready for the 25th Anniversary of the World Pilot Gig Racing Championships. The largest ever event of this kind in the world with 149 gig rowing boats participating this year and plenty of friendly gatherings all enjoying the atmosphere. Some crews traveling as far away from the Netherlands. Both men's & women's crews participating.
